I solved the problem by cutting several 6 inch sections of the stainless wire and then bundled them together using heatshrink. This way the wire was much thicker and did not overheat anymore. On the areas of wire out of the water turned red hot and that's when I melted my wife's Tupperware bowl before I could shut it down. The water does stay cleaner without using zinc plated connectors w/ copper wire. But if you use spray on rubber to seal them, you wouldn't have to worry about using anything other than stainless.
